CHILDRENS CLASSES

Ages 4-6

Art for Littles - Ages 4-6

During this class we will explore painting, construction, printmaking, batik and more! Emphasis is on creative nurturing processes with fun end products. Each student will have plenty of personal instruction and will learn about artists both past and present day.

Ages 7-10

Art Class – Ages 7-10

Learn about artists from the past and present and work with the materials of the masters! We will draw with charcoal and ink, paint with acrylics on panel, create sculptures from clay, run a series of prints on paper, and more. Class size is small for individual instruction.

Art Class Focus on Sculpture - Ages 7-10

Learn about artists from the past and present and work with the materials of the masters! We will create work in a wide variety of materials creating sculptural masks, wall relief sculptures and free standing pieces. Class size is small for individual instruction.

Ages 10-15

Large Scale Carnival Masks - Ages 10-15

Have you wanted to work in a very large scale with sculpture but didn’t have the right place or know-how? This class will be for the tween-aged child who will create a mask of their own design on paper, then transform it into a large sized wall mask with mixed media. Class sized limited to 8 as these masks are really large!

Tween Clay Class - Ages 10-15

This class will work with hand building techniques – slab, pinch and coil to build both functional and decorative pieces. Surface design and  texture, construction, glazing and other techniques to creating successful ceramic work will be focused on with each student working on a variety of projects over the 6 weeks.

Tween Drawing Class - Ages 10-15

Drawing is the basis of all art and this class will increase your skill levels and give you lots of practice on becoming more comfortable with drawing from life, photos and artist’s work in the gallery. Focus on skills, fun and personal style!

Craftastic Girls Club - Ages 10-15

A special craft club for girls! We will make a different craft each week, sharing our ideas and secrets with instructor Jill, who will guide you through crafting a button bracelet, make a banner for your room, stenciling a pillowcase, making a summer wreath, an accordion book and some artist trading cards! Fun for all and just for girls!

Oil and Acrylic Painting for Adults

For beginners and seasoned painters alike! This class will cover improving or beginning your journey with opaque painting techniques in color theory, composition, value and spontaneous painting.

Drawing for Adults

This class welcomes beginners and seasoned artists wishing to increase their practice time and work on individual goals and issues problem areas. Each student will work from life, photos and learn a variety of techniques to grow their knowledge. Charcoal, pencil, ink will be the main materials on an oversized newsprint pad. Materials list given at first class – bring sketching paper to the first class.

Clay class for Adults

The focus of this class is hand building with clay, however wheel throwing will be introduced. This class is for beginners and others who have worked with clay and want to go further. All materials and firing costs are included in the price.

Mixed Media for Adults

What do you get when you mix painting, printmaking, a dash of collage and a bit of texture and transfers? A mixed media painting! We will use oodles of materials and methods to create beautiful mixed media works. Materials list at first class – some provided. Bring what you love to use and two 16x20 canvas boards to the first class.

Experimental Watercolor painting

For beginners and experienced students alike – come and loosen up your style with this engaging exploration of a versatile medium. We will be working on layers, masking, white space and even some printmaking processes that will enhance your repertoire of painting skills. Bring a few sheets of #140 watercolor paper and a set of watercolor paints and brushes.

Basic Art Exploration for Adults

Remember art class in school? Refresh your memory and jump start your creativity! This class is an introduction to studio art making for adults. Through playful processes each student will work with painting, printmaking, mixed media and clay techniques. Personal style will be explored and each student will be inspired! Digital Photography

This class covers everything from an introduction into digital technology to important camera settings, and how to start taking a good picture no matter what your subject. Students will learn how to start controlling light, color, and atmosphere while simultaneously learning the controls of their camera through practice and experimentation. We'll also introduce and explore subjects pertaining to image scanning, importing/exporting, editing/restoration and presentation. Students are welcome to use personal laptops equipped with Adobe Photoshop or Elements.

Summer Camps

Kids Camp! Ages 7-9

Kids Camp will explore clay sculpture, painting, construction and maskmaking. Using a variety of materials students will be encouraged to explore their own personal style and discover styles of other artists through books, posters and work in the gallery.

Tween Camp - Ages 10-14

Exploring Art: adventures in clay, painting, drawing and printmaking

This engaging morning camp will explore a wide variety of media. We will create a number of works from textured clay tiles to acrylic paintings as well as drawings and relief prints! We will be learning about famous and not so famous artists along the way too! Each student should  bring a snack as we will take a break mid-morning.

Clay Nesting Bowls

Come in and create a beautiful set of nesting bowls with hand building techniques in our clay studio. No clay experience necessary, beginners welcomed and more advanced students challenged.

35 mm Photography

In this course students gain a fundamental knowledge of basic darkroom practice and how to operate a 35-millimeter camera. The course covers the basic aspects of black-and-white film processing, printing, and enlarging. After completing the course students should be well acquainted with the functions of their camera as well as darkroom equipment and procedures. Students will need their own 35 mm cameras.

Holga Photography (two-day weekend workshop)

In this course, students will learn how to operate a medium format ‘Holga’ camera. This course covers the basic aspects of black-and-white film processing, printing, and enlarging. After completing the course, students should be well acquainted with the functions and purposes of their camera and darkroom equipment and procedures. Students will need their own medium format cameras (Holgas usually sell for about $25).
