The idea for our new company began in November of 2002 over lunch. As we began discussing our future plans and dreams, we realized how much we had in common. We had a strong interest in the arts, helping the community, and being a part of the revitalization of downtown Rochester.
Each of our talents complimented perfectly to bring our vision together. Susan Schwake opened academyartworks in 1993, teaching fine art to children and adults. She has collaborated with many seacoast community organizations in residency programs. In addition to teaching, she has shown her work in many galleries and public spaces. She also ran Gallery 111 to showcase local artists. Rainer Schwake is from Münster, Germany and is an extremely talented graphic artist. He taught multi media at the University of Applied Sciences in Münster and has an extensive corporate portfolio of work he did while in Germany. Mary-Jo Monusky’s background in business and sales will be an important component to the growth of artstream. She will be working to build the media design division and gallery sales of the artwork.
With our studios located at a river, artstream is the perfect name to encompass all that we want to accomplish. The new name reflects the constant flow of ideas and creativity, which is what our company is all about.
